When Tin Can Timepieces set out to create the Shallow Water Combat Submersible, the goal wasn't to take a conventional watch and give it a tactical aesthetic.
The watch was designed from the ground up around its purpose. Every major component had to justify being there, from the left-side crown and fixed lugs to the titanium case and the mechanical bezel.
For our latest collaboration with Tin Can Timepieces, we paired the Shallow Water Combat Submersible with a WIS Woven Nylon Velcro strap—a combination that fits naturally with the watch's functional approach to design.
Built Differently
The Shallow Water Combat Submersible, or SWCS, takes a distinctly engineering-focused approach to the tool watch.
At 42mm, the watch has the presence you'd expect from a serious tool watch without relying on unnecessary weight. Its Grade 2 titanium case keeps it strong and lightweight while providing the corrosion resistance needed for a watch designed around demanding environments.
Even the traditional elements of the watch have been reconsidered.
The crown has been moved to 9 o'clock, creating a distinctive left-side, or destro, configuration. Traditional removable spring bars have been eliminated in favor of fixed lugs. And the bezel isn't simply there to frame the dial—it serves a specific mechanical purpose.
The result is a watch that looks different because it is built differently.
Fixed Lugs and a Strap Designed to Match
The fixed-lug architecture is one of the defining features of the SWCS.
By removing traditional removable spring bars, Tin Can Timepieces created a more secure connection between the case and strap while naturally favoring a single-pass strap configuration.
That's where the WIS Woven Nylon Velcro strap comes in.
The lightweight woven nylon construction complements the titanium case, while the Velcro closure provides the adjustability and secure fit that make sense for a watch built around functionality.
Rather than adding visual bulk or unnecessary complexity, the strap keeps the focus on what the SWCS was designed to do.
A Watch Built Around Function
The SWCS is full of details that serve a purpose.
Inside is a Sellita SW200 automatic movement, providing a traditional mechanical experience without batteries, charging, or electronics between the wearer and the time.
The screw-down crown and 200-meter water resistance reinforce its capabilities as a serious tool watch, while the sapphire crystal provides additional durability.
Even the bezel has a job.
The TOTAL MOA bezel transforms familiar watch hardware into a mechanical reference for tracking total elevation adjustment. There's no app, screen, or stored data involved—just a physical reference built directly into the watch.
It's a fitting example of the philosophy behind the SWCS: technical rather than flashy, functional rather than ornamental.
The Strap as Part of the System
One of the things we enjoy most about working with watch brands is finding a strap that complements the way a watch was designed to be used.
The SWCS isn't a watch where the strap was an afterthought. Its fixed-lug construction makes the strap an integral part of the overall system.
Our Woven Nylon Velcro strap reinforces that idea.
It's lightweight, easy to adjust, and designed for a secure fit, while the woven construction adds texture without taking away from the straightforward character of the watch.

Limited to 100 Watches
The inaugural SWCS production run will consist of only 100 individually serialized watches.
Each caseback permanently identifies its watch as part of the first generation, making the initial production run a distinct chapter in the history of the model.
Once those 100 serial numbers are gone, the first run is complete.
For collectors, that adds another layer to an already unconventional watch—you're not just buying an unusual tool watch, but one of the first 100 examples of a completely new platform.
Continuing the WIS × Tin Can Timepieces Partnership
This isn't our first collaboration with Tin Can Timepieces.
Previously, we paired their USA 250 watch with our Red, White & Blue Ostrich Leather strap, creating a completely different kind of watch and strap combination.
Where the USA 250 pairing focused on color, texture, and the significance behind the watch, the SWCS collaboration is centered around function and engineering.
Both collaborations reflect what we enjoy about working with Tin Can Timepieces: finding a WIS strap that doesn't simply look good on the watch, but makes sense with the way the watch was designed.

The Shallow Water Combat Submersible is a watch built around a clear philosophy: every component should have a reason to exist.
The left-side crown, fixed lugs, titanium case, Swiss automatic movement, TOTAL MOA bezel, and 200-meter water resistance aren't disconnected features. They're parts of a single system designed around function.
